Flourish51

Flourishing by design.

We are a creative studio on a mission to help the world flourish…by design

DESIGN WITH SOUL

Flourish51 is a creative studio integrating well-being science into human-centered design.

We help you design systems for life & work where flourishing is both the soul and the outcome.

Flourish51

OUR VISION

A galvanized global 51 by 51 movement toward one of the most ambitious public health goals of our time:

51% of the world flourishing by 2051.

OUR MISSION

To make well-being science accessible, practical, holistic, and present in the rhythms of everyday life by infusing flourishing-centered design into the ways people live, love, and work.

Our Values

Integrity:
We practice what we teach. Our business model reflects our commitment to flourishing.

Evidence-Based
Grounded in rigorous science, not just feel-good philosophy.

Inclusive:
Flourishing is a universal human right.

Sustainable:
We build for long-term transformation.

Flourishing-centered

We challenge conventional approaches when they don't serve flourishing.

  • Apporximately 7 in 10 people on Earth are not flourishing.

  • One in eight people on Earth — approximately 970 million — lives with a diagnosed mental health condition.

  • Mental health spending accounts for just 2.1% of health budgets worldwide.

  • In North America and Western Europe, young people are much less happy than 15 years ago.

    World Happiness Report 2026

  • 15-year-olds in 47 countries who use social media for over seven hours a day were found to have much lower wellbeing than those who use it for less than one hour.

    PISA Study

  • As of 2024, 33% of individuals globally report feelings of loneliness — nearly one in four adults experiencing significant isolation.

  • A 2025 global report identified teenagers as the loneliest age group in the world.

  • WHO now links social disconnection to an estimated 871,000 deaths annually.

  • More than 1 billion people worldwide are living with a mental health condition

    The World Health Organization (WHO).

  • In the United States, nearly 1 in 4 adults experienced a mental health condition in the past year. Yet almost half of them received no treatment at all.

  • Women are diagnosed with depression at 1.66× the rate of men. Among adolescents, the gap widens sharply: nearly 1 in 3 teenage girls experiences a major depressive episode, compared to about 1 in 9 boys. Women are also nearly 3× more likely than men to have PTSD.

  • The WHO estimates that depression and anxiety alone cause $1 trillion in lost productivity and 12 billion lost working days globally each year

  • GDP per capita appears to be negatively correlated with meaning and purpose in life. Many middle-income countries report higher levels of meaning, pro-social character, and relationship quality than high-income countries.

    Global Flourishing Study

  • The share of people in the U.S. who are thriving has fallen to 49% in 2024, down from 67% in 2007.

  • Ninety percent of the US public believes the country is facing a mental health crisis, and about one‑third of adults say they often felt anxious in the past year.

  • Fewer than half of Americans now say they are thriving, with tens of millions slipping from “thriving” to “struggling” since 2021

  • Thriving has fallen below 50% in the U.S., with Gallup estimating about 27 million fewer Americans now consider themselves “thriving” than in 2021.

  • Among young adults (18–29), self‑rated mental health is markedly weaker than older groups

  • The global burden of mental illness and chronic disease account for about 71% of deaths worldwide and immense economic loss.

The world is well below “51% flourishing,” and the gap represents billions of people living with preventable ill‑health, underused potential, and unstable livelihoods.

The 2051 Moonshot

51% of humanity
flourishing
by 2051.

Today only

~ 7 - 33%

of the global population

is flourishing*

*Doing well across happiness, health, relationships, meaning, and financial security

2051’s adults are already today’s children.

If we do not invest in their (& our) flourishing today, we risk a future diminished in innovation, leadership, and social cohesion.

Flourishing is a global public health priority that demands urgent action.

The 2051 moonshot calls for a cross‑sector coalition so that every classroom, workplace, clinic, app, street, and household becomes a tiny AND vital piece of the solution.

  • "Of all the virtues we can learn no trait is more useful... than the ability to transform adversity into an enjoyable challenge."

    Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

  • "When well-being comes from engaging our strengths and virtues, our lives are imbued with authenticity."

    Martin Seligman

  • "The good life consists in deriving happiness by using your signature strengths every day... the meaningful life adds one more component: using these same strengths to forward knowledge, power or goodness."

  • The happiest people spend much time in a state of flow - the state in which people are so involved in an activity that nothing else seems to matter; the experience itself is so enjoyable that people will do it even at great cost, for the sheer sake of doing it.

    Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

  • “Flourishing is living in a state in which all aspects of a person’s life are good, including the contexts in which that person lives.”

    Human Flourisning Program, Harvand University

  • Every 100 dollars invested in enhanced behavioral health reduced medical claims by 190 dollars, a 1.9x return;

  • Educational work on “academic flourishing” shows that when schools focus on wellbeing and character alongside achievement, students show better motivation, engagement, and long‑term academic outcomes.

  • Firms that invest in wellbeing, see lower turnover and absenteeism; estimates suggest that up to 42% of turnover is preventable and that replacing an employee costs roughly 50–200% of their annual salary

  • School-based flourishing interventions that build mindfulness and emotional skills in teachers have been shown to increase teacher flourishing and significantly improve students’ academic performance compared with control classrooms.

  • Good mental health requires more than the mere absence of a mental illness. People aren't necessarily functioning well just because they don't have major depression or another mental illness.

  • Insustry research shows that when teams experience higher intrinsic satisfaction, support, and engagement, performance improves—through better service, lower errors, and higher retention.

  • The evidence suggests that well‑designed mental health and wellbeing investments routinely produce 2x–4x financial returns

  • SDG 3 aims to reduce premature mortality from non‑communicable diseases by one‑third and promote mental health and wellbeing by 2030.

  • Raising flourishing to 51% globally would mean billions more people with the health, skills, and stability to participate fully in economies—expanding markets, strengthening tax bases, and reducing the costs of conflict, displacement, and social unrest.

  • We believe all living systems flourish when the full dimensions of well-being are intentionally nurtured and aligned.

Flourishing-Centered Design (FCD)

Flourishing lives, organizations, products & communities by design

Flourishing-Centered Design — FCD — is the methodology behind everything Flourish51 builds.

FCD was created as a holistic methodology for designing flourishing life across human systems, relationships, and living entities of every kind. It weaves together three fields: well-being science, human-centered design, & biomimicry, into a single living methodology.

FCD examines the whole living system — mapping where flourishing is strong, where it is ready to grow, and where intentional design unlocks the next level of vitality, resilience, and possibility. This is the next evolution of human development: moving beyond siloed fixes toward integrated, whole-system flourishing.

Flourishing Science

01

The evidence base for wellbeing, vitality, purpose, and meaningful growth.

Human-Centered & Universal Design

02

Design approach centered on lived human experience & human variation as the norm.

Biomimicry

03

Nature’s intelligence for rhythm, resilience, adaptation, and renewal.

Flourishing-Centered Design

FCD treats every human system as a dynamic, interconnected living entity capable of flourishing or languishing.

Just as a person can thrive, so can a classroom, a company, a marriage, a neighborhood, or a movement.
